We got lucky with the weather for getting settled in Scotland. Also, a good experience with the flight and rail travel. Edinburgh Airport and Waverly station were easy to navigate with our backpacks. The Premier Inn was a perfect home base and had our packages ready for us when we arrived. Their sign in book for the west highland way showed that they are a starting accommodation for hikers from around the world.
The first day on the trail was mostly easy walking. There were many livestock gates that needed to be navigated. There are plenty of sheep around the trail.
One of the highlights was the Glengoyne distillery that can be reached from the trail. We tasted some 10 and 12 year old single malt whiskey and ultimately bought 400 cl of the 12 year old.
After the distillery we met a couple of hikers and finished the walk with them. A girl from Hong Kong and a girl from North Carolina. The couple next to us at the campsite are from Switzerland and have been biking around Europe and Asia for 800 days.
I flew my drone to take a few shot of the campground we are staying in. All the pictures from the day are in my the smugmug gallery
